Struggles... My Thank You to All of you

"When he was a small boy, he had loved butterflies. Oh, not to net and mount them, but to wonder at their designs and habits.
Now a grown man with his first son to be born in a few weeks, he found himself once again fascinated with a cocoon. He had found it at the side of the park path. Somehow the twig had been knocked from the tree and the cocoon had survived and still woven to the branch.
As he had seen his mother do, he gently protected it by wrapping it in his handkerchief and carried it home. The cocoon found a temporary home in a wide-top mason jar with holes in the lid. The jar was placed on the mantle for easy viewing and protection from their curious cat who would delight in volleying the sticky silk between her paws.
The man watched. His wife's interest lasted only a moment, but he studied the silk envelop. Almost imperceptibly at first, the cocoon moved. He watched more closely and soon the cocoon trembling with activity. Nothing else happened. The cocoon remained tightly glued to the twig and there was no sign of wings.
Finally the shaking became so intense, the man thought the Butterfly would Die from the Struggle. He removed the lid of the jar, took a a sharp pen knife from his desk drawer, and carefully made a tiny slit in the side of the cocoon. Almost immediately , one wing appeared and then outstretched the other. The butterfly was free!
It seemed to enjoy its freedom and walked along the edge of the mason jar and along the edge of the mantle. But it Didn't fly. At first the man thought the wings needed time to dry, but Time passed and still the butterfly did not take off. The man was worried and called up his neighbor who taught High School Science. He told the neighbor how he had found the cocoon, placed it in the mason jar, and the terrible trembling as the butterfly struggled to get out. When he described how he carefully made a small slit in the cocoon, the teacher stopped him. "Oh, that is the reason. You See, The Struggle IS what gives the Butterfly the Strength to Fly".
And so It is with Us. Sometimes it's the Struggles in Life that Strengthen our Faith the Most. "

Special thanks to Everyone who stood by me in my struggle. Even though you may not have "cut the slit to help me out of the cocoon sooner" you DID what was ultimately Right and it is now after surviving it that I see.

Never say Never & Never Stop Believing!!! I love you all & I loved this journey I faced, I learned so much and the struggle was amazing!! Sometimes in our most uncomfortable moments in Life we find exactly what we we always needed but never knew. Thanks You <3 Colette

He's the $20,000 engagement ring Colette DiPierro refuses to give back.

That's the case for a Staten Island man is suing his ex-fiancée because she refuses to return the engagement ring.

She recently sat down with CBS 2 HD and said her fight to keep it is a battle cry for wronged women everywhere.

"I feel I was dumped. I was naive and I feel I was really taken advantage of. Then I got tough and I held on to that ring," Colette DiPierro said.

A nearly $20,000 sparkler is off DiPierro's ring finger and in a safe deposit box.

Once a symbol of love, it's now at the center of a legal battle.

"I'm holding on to this ring until you do what's right," DiPierro said.

This 28-year-old physicians assistant is talking to the man in her photos, 25-year-old Christopher Reinhold, who she met at the Jersey Shore in the summer of 2007.

Within months they were living together, first in New Jersey then on Staten Island.

"I paid for everything, the rent and the household bills," DiPierro said.

After almost two years together he popped the question, with the pricy ring, on a day in May that was extra special.

"I was proposed to on my birthday," she said.

"Yes" was the answer, but right away she said there was trouble, including fights over money. After just four short months engaged they split. She said the decision was mutual, though not harmonious.

"You're not going to walk away Scott free when I've done everything for you," DiPierro said.

After the break up, Reinhold moved in to his father's home in the New Dorp Beach section of Staten Island. He said he did not want to be interviewed on camera.

Off camera Reinhold would only say there is more to this story and DiPierro is not telling the truth.

CBS 2 HD: "He told me on the phone that you're lying and he wants his ring back. What is your response?"

DiPierro: "You can have your ring. Just do what you're supposed to. It's about teaching him a lesson, too."

The lesson that DiPierro feels she is owed something to compensate for the $40,000 she figures she spent supporting him.

"He completely wiped me out," DiPierro said.

Celebrity Divorce Attorney Raoul Felder said under State law an engagement ring promises a wedding. If it doesn't happen the ring goes back to the person who gave it.

"The best bet for the lady is it's a birthday present, not an engagement ring," Felder said.

That's where the timing of this particular proposal could come in and change everything, possibly allowing DiPierro to keep it.

"There are 360-something other days to give it to me. Why do you pick my birthday and why is that the only gift you give me?" DiPierro said.

Still, DiPierro has been told her legal battle is an uphill one. But she said she is staying strong and sees herself as a role model.

CBS 2 HD: "Do you have a message for women that you feel are in this same situation?"

"Don't be afraid to speak up say what you want to say," DiPierro said. "Even if I do lose it's about the principal. Stand up for who you are and what you believe in."

She said do that even when it puts you between a rock and a hard place.

There are always two sides to every story. The way people choose to interpret them is entirely up to them. Throughout this journey, I realized there are always going to be people who try to put you down for standing up for what you believe in, but as long as you know inside your doing the right thing that's mostly what matters.

I'm surprised how stereotypical people can be, but I continue to hold my head up and truly am grateful for the people who mean the most to me-my supporters! Friends & Family who have watched me go through this nightmare understand the reason behind my decisions and I know someday you will ALL see the principal and lesson behind this all. If you don't stand up for yourself nobody will. You are the only person who can put your foot on the ground and speak to be heard. Just be yourself...
